Haleakalā National Park

Artist in Residence program with $2000

In Georgia O'Keeffe Country on Maui

We are excited to continue our NEW artist-in-residence program at Haleakalā National Park. Haleakalā has some of the most otherwordly landscapes in all of Hawaii. The Park boundaries include the dormant lunar landcapes of Haleakalā as well as rainforests and waterfalls and pools leading down to Maui's legendary coastlines. This is a unique dramatic environment for artists in all media to flourish and to inspire new breakthroughs in process and result.

This Residency features:

  • $2000 Stipend

  • Housing inside the Park on the Island of Maui. A rare privilege!

  • Free use of the Wilderness Cabins in the park for 7 nights maximum  (Reservations Required)

  • Venue(s) for the artist's public presentation(s).

  • Free Access to park locations.

  • No Residency Fee.

  • NPS and NPAF Art Donation consideration

The Haleakalā Residency (July 2021) is open to all artists, writers, photographers, musicians, poets and performers in ANY art media, worldwide.

NPAF’s Fine Art curator, along with our select judges and panelists will consider solicited proposals through a competitive application process to identify artists deserving of a residency at Haleakalā National Park.

National Parks Arts Foundation, through the Park Service, and many generous partner donations, provides lodging, free rental of the wilderness cabins in the crater areas and a venue for workshops and lectures. Further, there are great possibilities for sponsorships and community engagements and exhibitions.

In addition to their residency, the selected artist will have the opportunity to present lecture(s) and workshop(s), and exhibit their art. This program aims to fulfill and exceed goals for Park Arts Programs as indicated in the NPS guiding document issued for the Centennial of the Park Service.

NPAF will also be partnering with the National Park Service, park partners, recognized museums, galleries, schools and underserved peoples organizations to promote Haleakalā National Park Artist-in-Residence Program.
